I’m going to look at a 78 Datsun B210 this evening on the way home from work. I am starting to get awfully excited about this thing. Anyone have advice on things to look out for on a Datsun?

Kinja'd!!!

The guy selling it specializes in Datsun engines and parts and apparently has the largest collection of Datsun engine parts in the US. It is in overall pretty solid shape from the look of it.

I plan on Daily Driving this sucker if it cooperates... I’ve been thinking about getting a small car and this guy is downright interesting.

Rust and other trim pieces? Anything mechanical should be easy to replace.

I’m well acquainted with rust. Nothing seems to survive long in St Louis. According to the Seller there is some rust through on the passenger floorboard, but the rest (frame, rocker, etc) is solid. I’ll verify for myself.

Rust around rockers and lower quarters. If musty smelling check rust were water would leak if the hatch seal was faulty. Check lights especially side indicators. Check the fusebox for melty. Sloppy steering box. Turn on all lights and check the amps.

I’ve got a 76. Love mine. All trim, rubber, model specific bits are hard to come by. Ditto on the rust. She’s going to be slower than you think!!

1.5 liters of furry. I had a 1975, blew the engine just going normal freeway speeds. It was not designed to go much above 60 mph.

My first car many years ago was a 77 B210 hatch. Fond memories of that little rust bucket. It’s slow, but it has decent handling and is fun to drive in a slow-car-fast kind of way.

AM radio, manual everything, ah - how far we have come in technology over the years.

Rust, rust, and more rust.

My Mom had a ‘72 Datsun B210, in’81 the right side strut towers collapsed. My dad found the right side rocker panel.
